Ninety percent of suicides with a gun are lethal, whereas only 4% of suicide attempts by other means result in death. Suicide among youth happened in the decedent’s home 65% of the time, with 57% of the firearms owned by a family member.

 In Santa Clara County from 2015-2020
Firearms were the number one suicide deaths for every age group, 15-24 and up.
White men ages 45-64 make up the highest number of suicide deaths over any other group.
Suicide death rate of males is 3 to 4 times that of females.
